The recent cloudburst in Ramban has led to several tragic incidents, including the loss of numerous bovines as trucks were washed away. This natural disaster has sparked concerns over illegal activities such as bovine smuggling in the region. Reports indicate that some truck drivers may have been transporting cattle under inhumane conditions, exacerbating the situation during the severe weather event.
The tragic loss of animals emphasizes the need for stricter regulations and improved safety measures to protect both livestock. This incident not only highlights the vulnerabilities of rural areas to natural disasters but also points to the importance of addressing illegal trade practices that can arise in times of crisis. Authorities are likely to take further steps to ensure that both animals and human safety are prioritized in future preventative measures.
But the shocking thing is that how these trucks managed to reach Ramban as there are many check-points enroute right from Nagrota to Ramban?
The saffron brigade in Jammu had always raised hue and cry over bovine smuggling in the past but with the BJP forming government in J&K in 2014 all these issues were put under beneath. The law and enforcement is being controlled by the BJP since 2014 directly. Officers of a particular religion have been posted on important positions right from ADGP Jammu Zone to SHO but still such incidents are shocking.
As the transportation of bovines is illegal in Jammu region critics are calling for a thorough investigation into the actions of law enforcement and other relevant agencies to determine how these trucks carrying cattle reached Ramban.
As the investigation unfolds, there may be implications for how authorities manage transportation regulations and emergency responses during extreme weather conditions. The loss of these animals highlights the urgent need for better oversight and accountability in protecting livestock and ensuring compliance with welfare standards. Community advocates are likely to demand reforms that not only address illegal smuggling practices but also enhance the safety and welfare of animals in vulnerable regions.
In the last this incident has exposed the involvement of police officers with the bovine smugglers who allow their trucks carrying animals to ply smoothly through their jurisdictions enroute to Kashmir valley.
