135 Climbers Reach Summit of Mount Everest in Single Day

Kathmandu, May 19 (H.S.) – Sunday marked a remarkable day for climbers as 135 individuals successfully reached the summit of Mount Everest (Sagarmatha) in a single day, with favorable weather conditions reported. The Nepal Tourism Department confirmed this achievement, highlighting it as a significant milestone for the current spring climbing season on May 18. The temporary field office at Everest Base Camp noted that the pleasant weather facilitated an unprecedented number of climbers to reach the peak, with expectations for more attempts that day.

Himal Gautam, the department’s director, emphasized that May 18 was a notable day, especially following previous adverse weather that delayed climbers’ aspirations. However, conditions improved over the last three days, allowing for successful climbs. So far this season, over 200 climbers have reached the summit, with many more anticipated to follow. Among those who summited on Sunday was Purnima Shrestha, a photojournalist and record holder for having climbed Everest five times, achieving a significant milestone in her climbing journey.
