15 acres of poppy crops destroyed, multiple bunkers dismantled, weapons recovered in Manipur

Imphal, 02 March (HS): Security forces and Forest Department, Tengnoupal, in the Khudai Lifem hill area of Tengnoupal district of Manipur, launched a drive to destroy illegal poppy cultivation in the presence of SDM, Tengnoupal. During this, illegal poppy crop was destroyed in 15 acres of area spread over Tengnoupal police station area.

In the second action, security forces demolished two illegal bunkers on Mark Hill in Thingsat Hill Range of Kangpokpi district. Apart from this, three other illegal bunkers were also destroyed on the border of Kangpokpi and Imphal East districts in Wakan Hill Range.

Additionally, a large quantity of weapons and ammunition were recovered by the security forces during the search operation. These include 5.56 mm INSAS LMG, AK-56 rifle, SLR rifle, SMG 9 mm carbine, .303 rifle, double barrel gun, various magazines and bullets. Also, four high explosive hand grenades, one Chinese hand grenade, two camouflage helmets, three bulletproof jackets, four BP plates, one magazine pouch and one Khukri were also recovered. This recovery was made from Sairamkhul area of Lamshang police station area.

Continuous action by the security forces is tightening the noose on illegal activities.
