5 dead as car fall into gorge in U'khand's Chamoli

Dehradun, 19 April (H.S.): On Friday evening, a tragic car accident occurred on the Birhi-Nijmula motor road near Gadhi village in Chamoli district, Uttarakhand, resulting in the deaths of five individuals.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed profound sorrow and ordered the district administration to render financial assistance to the victims’ families.

The incident happened as the car was returning to Harmani village in Dasholi Block from a wedding ceremony in Pagna village, when it lost control and plunged approximately three hundred meters into a gorge. All five passengers, residents of Goliam village and Utraun Dindoli, died at the scene due to the impact.

The deceased were identified as Surendra Bharti (46), Surendra Lal (53), Jaydeep Kumar (25), Mahavir Lal (50), and Mohanlal (50).

Local police are conducting rescue operations, though heavy rainfall in the region poses challenges to these efforts. The community is grieving for the tragic loss.

The Chief Minister prayed for the souls of the departed and extended condolences to their families.

This incident highlights the road safety concerns in the area, prompting further scrutiny and potential preventive measures.
