Chennai, 22 April (H.S.) : The AIADMK staged a walkout from the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly today in protest against the Speaker’s refusal to allow them to raise the issue of TASMAC (Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation) and its related concerns.
The AIADMK members, led by their leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS), sought to bring to the attention of the house several issues concerning the state-run liquor outlets, including alleged irregularities, public grievances, and the impact of TASMAC on society.
According to AIADMK sources, they had submitted a request to discuss the matter, but the Speaker denied permission, citing procedural rules. This denial sparked strong objections from the opposition party, who argued that TASMAC is a significant public issue that warrants discussion in the Assembly.
The government is attempting to suppress our voices and prevent us from raising crucial issues that affect the people of Tamil Nadu, stated an AIADMK spokesperson after the walkout. The party members expressed their dissatisfaction with the Speaker’s decision and reiterated their demand for a thorough discussion on TASMAC.
The walkout underscores the escalating tensions between the ruling DMK and the opposition AIADMK in the Assembly. The AIADMK’s action highlights its determination to hold the government accountable on issues related to TASMAC, which has been a subject of public debate and controversy in the state.
