Pahalgam terrorist attack: BJP condemns Robert Vadra's statement as shameful

BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala

New Delhi, April 23 (H.S.): Political controversy has arisen over Robert Vadra’s remarks about the tourists killed in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Expressing condolences, Vadra criticized the government for promoting Hindutva, which he claims makes minorities uncomfortable. The BJP responded strongly, labeling his comments as shameful.

BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala condemned any attempt to justify jihadist attacks with unfounded arguments, emphasizing the need for unanimous condemnation of terrorism. He criticized Congress, claiming that Vadra and the party are perpetuating narratives that shield radical jihad and terrorism, pointing out past instances where Congress blamed security forces after incidents like the Pulwama attack.

Poonawala accused Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi of endorsing such statements that seem to defend Pakistani terrorists, undermining the fight against terrorism.

What did Robert Vadra say in his statement?

In our country, we see that this government will talk about Hindutva, and the minorities feel uncomfortable and troubled when you have a survey on mosques or you tell people you cannot pray this way or that way… If you dissect this terrorist act that took place, if they (terrorists) are looking at people’s identity, why are they doing this? Because there’s a divide that has come about in our country with Hindus and Muslims and also Christians.

Robert Vadra stated that targeting identity and committing violence sends a message to the Prime Minister, highlighting the vulnerability of minorities and emphasizing the need for assurance of safety and secularism.
