Income Tax Raid on Kajah Beedi Company in Tirunelveli Over Tax Evasion Allegations

Chennai, 29 April (H.S.) : The Income Tax Department conducted a raid on a Kajah Beedi company in Tirunelveli over allegations of tax evasion. The search operation aimed to uncover potential tax discrepancies and unaccounted wealth. Details about the seized assets and specific allegations are yet to be disclosed.

Income tax raids are typically triggered by credible information about tax evasion, lavish spending without matching income, manipulation of accounts or undeclared investments. The Income Tax Act empowers authorized officials to search premises, seize undeclared assets and books of accounts.

During such raids, officials can seize assets like undeclared cash, jewelry, documents related to property and computer data storage devices. However, certain assets like stock-in-trade and disclosed assets cannot be seized.

The affected parties have rights during and after the raid, including the right to have respectable witnesses present, inspect seized documents and challenge the raid in court if deemed unjust.
