Guwahati, 30 April (HS): Bharatiya Janata Party, Assam Pradesh has strongly welcomed the cabinet decision taken by the Central Government regarding caste census 2025. In a statement issued in this regard, State President Dilip Saikia said that this scientific and historic decision reflects the government’s deep commitment towards social justice.

He said that during the six decades of Congress rule, social justice had become only a slogan due to lack of policy firmness and proper data collection related to social structure. Due to this, effective intervention could not be done in areas like policy making and budget allocation. Now this historic decision will pave the way for the development of economically weaker sections, Scheduled Castes, Tribes and Other Backward Classes.

Saikia said that this decision is a true tribute to the pioneers of social justice like Ram Manohar Lohia and Karpoori Thakur. He also said that till now the schemes made for this class were based on estimates, in which social equality and all-round development could not be achieved due to lack of data. But the 2025 census and the schemes based on it will be based on scientific and solid data.

Saikia clarified that social justice should no longer remain a political issue, but it should become an implementation linked to solid political will – which is becoming possible under the current leadership.

The NDA government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has continuously taken effective steps to ensure the rights and representation of the backward classes. This decision of the Cabinet for the 2025 caste census is a strong expression of the principle of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.

Along with this, Assam BJP has also described the 166 km long four-lane national highway to be built from Shillong to Silchar as a historic decision. Regarding this highway to be built at a cost of about ₹ 22,864 crore, Saikia said that this will greatly improve the connectivity of Assam, Meghalaya and the entire Northeast. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this important project.
