Maharashtra Day: Stock Market Holiday, MCX to Open in Evening Session

New Delhi, May 1 (HS): On the occasion of Maharashtra Day, the domestic stock market is closed today. Due to the holiday on May 1, there is no trading in both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). Today’s holiday will be effective across all segments, including equity, equity derivatives, currency derivatives, and securities lending and borrowing (SLB).

In terms of the commodity segment, the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will remain closed in the first session today from 9 AM to 5 PM, but trading will take place in the second session from 5 PM to 11:30 PM as usual. During this time, investors will be able to trade in commodities like gold, silver, and crude oil on the MCX. After a day’s holiday, regular trading will resume on Friday at the BSE and NSE. It is noteworthy that today’s stock market holiday, occurring on May 1 for Maharashtra Day, is one of the 14 holidays included in the holiday calendar for the stock market set for 2025.

According to the stock exchange’s holiday calendar, in addition to today’s holiday and the weekly holidays on Saturdays and Sundays, there will be seven more holidays this year for the stock market. The stock market will be closed on August 15 for Independence Day, on August 27 for Ganesh Chaturthi, on October 2 for Gandhi Jayanti, on October 21 and 22 for Diwali, Laxmi Poojan, and Balipratipada, on November 5 for the Festival of Lights, and on December 25 for Christmas.
