Kokrajhar (Assam), 1 May (HS): Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma’s 35th death anniversary was observed on Thursday at his birthplace Thulungapuri in Dotma town. Since this morning, people of the Bodo community kept coming to pay tribute to the martyr’s altar of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma, the founder of All Bodo Student Union (ABSU). As part of this program organized under the aegis of ABSU, ABSU Assistant Education Secretary Romeo Kumar Basumatari hoisted the half-mast flag of the organization in the morning. Former ABSU Secretary and former MLA Parameshwar Brahma paid floral tribute at Bodofa’s samadhi.
Assistant Education Secretary of ABSU Romeo Kumar Basumatary, Cabinet Minister of Assam Government Nandita Garlosa, Deputy Chief Executive Councilor of BTR Govind Basumatary, Additional Chief Secretary of Assam Government Dr. Kalyan Chakraborty, Deputy Commissioner of Kokrajhar District Mashanda M. Partin as well as members of Kokrajhar District ABSU and UPPL paid their tributes in the program.
On this occasion, Assistant Education Secretary of ABSU Romeo Kumar Basumatary thanked the Central Government, Government of Assam and BTC Council Government for the step taken in the name of Bodofa.
On this occasion, Basumatary said that the 35th death anniversary of Bodofa was celebrated together by the local Bodo community of ABSU and Dotma. He said that today is a very important day for the Bodo society.
On the other hand, the 35th death anniversary of Bodofa Upendranath Brahma was also celebrated in Kailash Colony of New Delhi. In this program, ABSU President Dipen Bodo hoisted the flag in the presence of BTC Chief Executive Councilor Pramod Bodo.
After this, tribute was paid to Bodofa Upendranath Brahma at Delhi Bodoland Guest House. On this occasion, MP Jayant Basumatari, BTC Executive Councilor Sajal Singh, ABSU Central Committee officials and other eminent personalities were present.
It is known that Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma was born on 31 March 1959 in Boragari village of Dotma in Kokrajhar district of Lower Assam and he died on 1 May 1990. He fought a long political battle for the rights of the Bodo community. Due to which the Bodo community today considers itself indebted to him.
