Dhaka, May 02 (HS): Khaleda Zia, the President of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and former Prime Minister, is set to return to Bangladesh from London on May 5 after receiving treatment. She has long struggled with health issues like liver cirrhosis, kidney complications, heart problems, diabetes, and arthritis.

Zia was taken to London on January 8 of this year for better medical care and reportedly feels better now. AZM Jahid Hussain, a BNP standing committee member, confirmed her significant recovery.

Alongside Khaleda Zia, her daughters-in-law, Dr. Zubaida Rahman and Syeda Shamila Rahman Sinti, will accompany her on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight.

Khaleda Zia, who was imprisoned for corruption in 2018, was released under special circumstances during the COVID-19 pandemic and later by presidential order after the Awami government’s fall in August 2023.The court revoked her verdict in two corruption cases against her. Following her treatment in London, she spent time celebrating Eid with her family and is currently staying at her son Tarique Rahman’s residence.
