Thunderstorms to affect Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, UP: see nowcast alert for Panchkula, Ambala

Delhi, 4 May (H.S.): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Chandigarh issued a nowcast on May 4, warning of a moderate thunderstorm in parts of Panchkula and Ambala, with wind speeds of 40-60 km/h and accompanying lightning.

An orange alert for rainfall is in effect for Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, western Uttar Pradesh, eastern Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, and Karnataka. The IMD also predicted isolated heavy rainfall in southwest Rajasthan on May 6 and 7, as well as thundersqualls in Uttarakhand until May 6, and in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and western Uttar Pradesh on May 4 and 5. A duststorm warning is issued for Rajasthan until May 5.

For South Peninsular India, the IMD forecasts isolated hailstorms in North and South Interior Karnataka on May 5-7, along with isolated heavy rainfall in Kerala on May 6 and 7, and Tamil Nadu in the following days. In Northeast India, isolated heavy rainfall is expected in Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh. The IMD also warns of isolated to scattered light/moderate rainfall with thunderstorms across Gujarat, Konkan, Goa, and other regions until May 8.
