
Guwahati, 4 May (HS): Speaker of the House of Representatives of Japan, Nukaga Fukushiro, who arrived in Assam on a three-day visit, and the high-level delegation led by him visited the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati on the second day of visit on Sunday. As soon as the delegation reached the institute, Assam Government’s Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Nandita Garlosa, Institute Director Prof. Devendra Jalihal, Education Department Secretary Narayan Konwar, Kamrup Commissioner Dev Kumar Mishra etc. welcomed them warmly.
After this, the Japanese representatives were informed about the various joint efforts being made by IIT Guwahati with Japan and the proposed cooperation plans in the future. On this occasion, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Japan, Nukaga Fukushiro said that both the countries with similar values like democracy can move forward in the direction of development by cooperating with each other. He said that India is rich in human resources, especially in various fields including information technology, and Japan needs such human resources. Therefore, Japan is keen to provide opportunities to this skilled human resource of India. He also expressed the possibility of cooperation between the two democratic countries in areas such as infrastructure, construction, education, economy and politics.
After the formal welcome ceremony, the delegation was taken on a tour of the Institute’s Nano Technology Center and Research Park. During this, information about the initiatives being taken by IIT Guwahati in the field of startups and entrepreneurship was given through a PowerPoint presentation. Apart from this, Chief Operating Officer Dr. Sajal Sen informed the delegates about the state-of-the-art health science institute ‘Assam Advanced Health Care Innovation Institute’ under construction at the institute. The construction work of this institute, being built at a cost of 5,460 million, has started from April 2 and research work has started on four subjects in the meantime. Its construction work has been targeted to be completed within 30 months.
During the visit, the delegation expressed satisfaction at seeing various startup projects showcased by IIT students. At the end of the visit, the delegates enjoyed traditional Assamese food at the institute’s guest house and expressed happiness at visiting the institute of higher learning.
