Mumbai, May 7 (HS): In the match played on Tuesday night between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, the Mumbai team led by Hardik Pandya once again faced a fine due to slow over rate. Meanwhile, Gujarat’s coach Ashish Nehra was fined and given a demerit point for ‘conduct against the spirit of the game.’

In this rain-affected match, Mumbai Indians had to bring in an extra fielder inside the 30-yard circle in the final over, which is an in-game penalty for slow over rate as per IPL rules. Gujarat needed 15 runs to win in the last over and secured victory on the final ball.

According to a statement released by the IPL, Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya was fined for maintaining a slow over rate during match number 56 of the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Gujarat Titans at Wankhede Stadium.

The statement further mentioned that since this was the second offense by his team related to minimum over-rate under the IPL code of conduct for the season, Pandya was fined ₹24 lakhs. The remaining members of the playing XI, including the impact player and concussion substitute, were fined ₹6 lakhs or 25% of their respective match fees (whichever is lower).

Meanwhile, during the final moments of the match when play was repeatedly halted due to rain, Ashish Nehra was seen very animatedly demanding the umpires to restart the match. He was found guilty of violating Article 2.20 of the IPL Code of Conduct for this behavior. As a result, he was fined 25% of his match fees and received one demerit point. This is the first time a coach has been penalized in this manner.

According to the IPL statement, Gujarat Titans head coach Ashish Nehra has been fined 25% of his match fees for violating the IPL Code of Conduct and has been awarded a demerit point. He committed a level one offense under Article 2.20, which relates to conduct that is against the spirit of the game. He accepted the punishment imposed by the match referee.
