US engages in India-Pakistan tensions; Rubio speaks with Jaishankar

New Delhi/Washington, May 8 (HS): Amid increasing tension between India and Pakistan, the United States has intensified its diplomatic activity. On Thursday, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke on the phone with India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, expressing concern over the rising tensions in the region and emphasizing the need for immediate de-escalation.

In a statement issued by the U.S. State Department, it was mentioned, Rubio stressed the need for direct and constructive dialogue between India and Pakistan during his conversation with Minister Jaishankar. He assured support from the U.S. for bilateral talks and efforts to maintain regional stability.

Rubio referred to the terrorist attack that took place on April 22 in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, as horrific, expressing deep condolences to the victims and their families. He reiterated that the U.S. stands shoulder to shoulder with India against terrorism.

According to sources, the two leaders also discussed defense cooperation, strategic partnership, and security in the Indo-Pacific region. The U.S. clarified that it stands with India in every effort to maintain peace in the region.
