Bangladeshi actress Nusrat Faria

Dhaka, May 20 (H.S.): Renowned Bangladeshi actress Nusrat Faria has been granted bail just 24 hours after her arrest at the airport in an attempted murder case. The 31-year-old actress was arrested concerning a case related to unrest in July, as reported by The Daily Star. Her lawyer, Mohammad Iftikhar Hussain, confirmed that Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Mohammad Mustafizur Rahman, issued the bail order following a hearing of Faria’s application. The hearing was initially set for May 22, as her lawyer presented documents proving she was in Canada from July 9 to August 13, during the time of the alleged crime in the Bhatara area of Dhaka.

Faria’s arrest drew significant criticism from many artists and cultural figures, especially those active during the July unrest. She was taken under heavy security to court following her apprehension at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport before her flight to Thailand. The case against her was filed by Inamul Haque, who was injured during a protest on July 19, alongside several others, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Nusrat Faria, whose full name is Nusrat Faria Mazhar, also works as a model, singer, presenter, and is known for her role as Hasina in the film Mujib: The Making of a Nation, released in 2023, highlighting the life of Bangladesh’s first President, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Faria debuted in the film industry with Aashiqui in 2015 and has starred in multiple successful films.
