SIT formed to investigate Madhya Pradesh minister Vijay Shah's controversial statement

SIT for investigation of the case.

Bhopal, May 20 (H.S.): The Director General of Police (DGP) of Madhya Pradesh, Kailash Makwana, has established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the controversial comments made by Tribal Affairs Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah regarding Colonel Sofia Qureshi. This decision follows a directive from the Supreme Court, which reprimanded Shah for his remarks and mandated the formation of an SIT. The SIT is led by IG Pramod Verma from the Sagar Zone, joined by DIG Kalyan Chakravarti from the Special Armed Forces and Dindori SP Wahini Singh.

Notably, the Supreme Court specified that the SIT officers should be from the Madhya Pradesh cadre but originating from outside the state. The formation order was issued late Monday night. The incident stems from Shah’s statement on May 12, where he labeled Colonel Qureshi as a sister of terrorists, resulting in an FIR filed on May 14 at the Manpur police station in Mhow. During a recent court session, it was noted that Shah, who contested the FIR, had previously apologized for his statements. The Supreme Court has temporarily stayed Shah’s arrest, provided he cooperates with the investigation, and has mandated the SIT to present a status report by May 28.
