Mahendra Dev takes charge as new Chairman of PM's economic advisory council

New Delhi, June 7 (H.S.): S. Mahendra Dev is the new chairman of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council (EAC-PM), replacing Suman Bery. This reorganization, approved by the Prime Minister for a two-year term, retains three full-time members: Sanjiv Sanyal, Sanjay Kumar Mishra, and Shamika Ravi. New part-time member Soumya Kanti Ghosh joins a group that includes Rakesh Mohan, Sajid Chandhuri, Neelkanth Mishra, Nilesh Shah, T.T. Ram Mohan, K.V. Raju, Chetan Ghate, Pami Dua, Pulak Ghosh, and Gaurav Vallabh.

Dev, former Vice-Chancellor of the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research, has a strong academic background with degrees from the Delhi School of Economics and Yale University and has published extensively in development economics, macroeconomic policies, and the agricultural sector. The EAC-PM had been without a full-time chairman since November.
