Washington, June 19(HS): President Donald Trump approved an attack plan on Iran but has yet to make a final decision on its execution or joining Israel’s air campaign, according to reports from CBS News based on intelligence sources. Trump’s approval was contingent on Tehran’s agreement to abandon its nuclear program, as mentioned in his statements following the plan’s approval.
The potential target includes Iran’s Fordow underground uranium enrichment facility. Despite no immediate Israeli attacks on Fordow after an ongoing bombing campaign, Trump clarified he has not finalized any decisions, emphasizing his preference to decide at the last moment given the dynamic situation. He expressed interest in negotiating a deal to end Iran’s nuclear efforts. Conversely, Iran has indicated it will not engage in negotiations under pressure, threatening retaliation to any external aggression. U.S. intelligence and Pentagon officials noted that should the U.S. join the Israeli offensive, Iran has prepared for possible attacks on American bases in the Middle East. The Pentagon has stationed approximately 40,000 soldiers in the region to manage potential consequences of an attack on Iran, ready to respond to Iranian missile strikes, drones, or terrorist counteractions.
