India's Growth Set to Remain Robust in FY26; Emphasis on Agriculture, Defence, and MSMEs: Nirmala Sitharaman

Nirmala Sitharaman

New Delhi, 30 June (H.S.): India is projected to maintain its status as the fastest-growing economy, with robust growth of 7.4% in Q4 of 2024-25 and a full-year growth rate of 6.5%, driven by strong performance in agriculture, construction, and services, according to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The good monsoon and supportive policies are expected to enhance this growth further.

Sitharaman highlighted that deepening markets benefit retailers and citizens, while digitized, transparent systems empower individuals to access resources independently. The government is committed to supporting labor-intensive units, including handicrafts and handmade goods, ensuring assistance across both labor and capital-intensive sectors.

Over the past 11 years, the Modi administration has focused on implementing concrete policies aiding various sectors, especially Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Initiatives like the Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana aim to enhance agricultural productivity and farmers’ incomes, with tailored bank schemes suggested for targeted districts.

Sitharaman emphasized the government’s dedication to defense, assuring that it will meet requirements ranging from essential supplies to advanced equipment, significantly increasing India’s defense production and export capabilities. This focus on domestic manufacturing highlights the strategic advantage afforded by local production for national needs. Overall, India’s economy is on a promising trajectory, with continued governmental support fostering growth in multiple sectors.
