Union Cabinet approves National Sports Policy-2025 to establish India as sports superpower.

New Delhi, 1 July (H.S.): The Cabinet has approved the National Sports Policy-2025 (NSP-2025), aiming to empower citizens and establish India as a global sports superpower, particularly in preparation for the 2036 Olympics. This new policy will replace the National Sports Policy of 2001 and was developed after extensive consultations with various stakeholders, including athletes and experts. The policy focuses on five key pillars: excellence on the global stage, economic development, social inclusion, public participation, and integration through education.

Under NSP-2025, the government will develop a robust legal and regulatory framework, encourage private sector participation via public-private partnerships (PPP), and utilize technical innovations like artificial intelligence and data analytics for athlete performance evaluation. A national monitoring framework will include key performance indicators (KPIs) and timelines to track progress. States and union territories are also encouraged to formulate their own sports policies aligned with NSP-2025.

The policy aims to enhance sports from grassroots to elite levels by improving infrastructure, offering world-class training, and integrating sports with industry. It promotes sports tourism, supports local industry, and encourages private investments while fostering active participation from marginalized communities, including women and persons with disabilities.

To make sports a mass movement, NSP-2025 promotes public participation through fitness campaigns and mandates equal access to sports facilities. By including sports in the school curriculum and strengthening the training of physical educators, the policy seeks to integrate sports into educational frameworks.

In summary, NSP-2025 outlines a comprehensive strategy to develop sports infrastructure, enhance athlete training, promote economic opportunities through sports, encourage community participation, and integrate sports into educational systems, thereby paving the way for India’s success on the global sports stage.
