
Calgary, July 5(HS): India’s Kidambi Srikanth advanced to the semifinals of the Canada Open Super 300 badminton tournament by defeating top-seeded Chou Tien-Chen in the quarterfinals with a score of 21-18, 21-9. The match lasted 43 minutes, with Srikanth demonstrating aggressive play, taking an early 5-0 lead. Despite a brief resurgence from Chou, Srikanth clinched the first game by winning five of the last six points. He maintained his momentum in the second game, overcoming a 4-4 tie to dominate the score at 19-7. Currently ranked 49th, Srikanth will face third-seeded Kenta Nishimoto, whom he leads 6-4 in head-to-head matchups but lost to in their last encounter.
Indian player S. Shankar Muthusamy Subramanian and Shriyansi Valiashhetti were eliminated earlier, leaving Srikanth as India’s sole contender in the tournament with a prize pool of $240,000.
