Washington, July 10 (HS): U.S. President Donald Trump announced new import duties on six countries, including the Philippines, effective August 1. Tariffs of 30% will be placed on Libya, Iraq, and Algeria, 25% on Moldova and Brunei, and 20% on the Philippines. This brings the total number of affected countries to 20 following previously announced increases on Cambodia, Thailand, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Japan, and South Korea.
Trump confirmed in a cabinet meeting that the August 1 deadline is non-negotiable, though countries can negotiate before this date. He also warned that increasing tariffs from other nations would lead to further U.S. duties.
In April, Trump had postponed the reciprocal tariffs for 90 days, but they are set to take effect on August 1, barring countries with existing trade agreements like the U.K., Vietnam, and China.
