Delhi, 10 July (H.S.): The Ambassador of Japan to India, Keiichi Ono, led a delegation of prominent Japanese companies to Dholera Special Investment Region (Dholera SIR), India’s prospective smart industrial city within the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC), on July 9-10, 2025. This visit aimed to enhance industrial cooperation and mutual development between India and Japan, emphasizing innovation and sustainability.
The engagement began with a conference in Ahmedabad, which featured notable speakers, including Ms. Kazuko Sakuma from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) and other dignitaries. Discussions underscored India’s evolving industrial ecosystem and the significance of Dholera as an advanced manufacturing hub. Keynote speaker Shri Rajat Kumar Saini highlighted the strategic partnership fostered through the DMIC, inspired by Japan’s Tokyo-Osaka corridor, and the benefits of Japanese investments.
On July 10, the delegation toured Dholera SIR, observing essential infrastructure and facilities such as the Water Treatment Plant, Canal Front Development, Power Substation, and the under-construction Tata Electronics semiconductor fabrication plant. The Tata facility, part of a broader ₹1.54 lakh crore semiconductor investment initiative, involves collaboration with Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC) from Taiwan.
Attention was drawn to Dholera’s planned social infrastructure, including a multi-specialty hospital, integrated school, and residential complexes, promoting a livable and investor-ready environment. With multimodal connectivity through the Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway and the future Greenfield International Airport, Dholera is envisioned as a smart city.
Ambassador Ono expressed Japan’s commitment to supporting India’s ambitions in semiconductors and smart city development. The visit reinforced Dholera’s role as a pivotal element in India’s Vision 2047, aiming to become a self-reliant and innovation-driven economy, positioning Dholera as a global manufacturing gateway.
