London, 13 July (H.S.): Iga Swiatek claimed her first Wimbledon title, defeating Amanda Anisimova with a commanding 6-0, 6-0 victory in just 57 minutes. This win marks the heaviest defeat in a women’s final at Wimbledon in over a century, with Swiatek becoming the first woman since 1911 to win the final without losing a game.
The 24-year-old Swiatek expressed disbelief at her achievement, noting that her previous Grand Slam victories were on clay or hard courts and that she hadn’t expected to win at Wimbledon. She highlighted her experience from other Slams as a factor in her confidence.
In contrast, Anisimova struggled, appearing tense and rushed in her shots from the start. She revealed that fatigue prevented her from practicing the day before and disrupted her pre-final warm-up, recognizing the need for improvement in her physical stamina to endure long tournaments. Despite her performance, Anisimova’s potential was evident in her previous match against world number one Aryna Sabalenka.
