Copa America (Women): Ten-woman Brazil survive Colombia challenge to goalless draw

Brazil's Fe Palermo and Colombia's Linda Caicedo

Quito, July 26(HS): In the final Group B match of the Copa America women’s tournament, Brazil held Colombia to a 0-0 draw despite being a player down for most of the match. The pivotal moment occurred in the 21st minute when Brazilian goalkeeper Lorena received a red card for handling the ball outside the box. Brazil replaced her with Claudia, who helped maintain the clean sheet.

Colombia had multiple chances but could not score, with players like Valerin Lobo and Mayra Ramírez failing to convert. After the match, Lobo acknowledged the difficulty and emphasized the need for focus in the semifinals. Brazil’s Yasmin also noted their pride in the performance despite the challenges. Both teams qualified for the semifinals, with Brazil facing Uruguay and Colombia up against Argentina.
