
New Delhi, July 28 (HS): At the Wieslaw Czapiewski Memorial competition in Poland, Tejaswin Shankar from India excelled in the decathlon, setting a new national record with 7826 points and finishing fourth. This surpassed his previous record, following a silver medal win at the 2023 Asian Games with 7666 points. In the first day of the World Athletics Combined Events Tour Gold Meet, he led with 4292 points, achieving a personal best in the 100 meters at 11.02 seconds.
On the second day, despite a season-best discus throw of 38.28 meters, he dropped to sixth after the pole vault. He rebounded with a javelin throw of 52.89 meters and a personal best of 4:31.80 minutes in the 1500 meters. Ultimately, Ondřej Kopecký, Vili Stráský, and Risto Lillemets took the top three positions, while Tejaswin’s score fell short of the 8550-point qualification mark for the World Championships.
