Stock market under pressure in early trading ; Sensex, Nifty decline

New Delhi, August 8(HS): The domestic stock market faced pressure in early trading today, starting with a decline. Buyers tried to gain momentum briefly after the market opened, but increased selling pressure led to further weakening of the Sensex and Nifty indices.

After the first hour, both indices were down by 0.59 percent. Among leading stocks, Titan Company, Bajaj Finance, NTPC, HDFC Life, and Bajaj Finserv saw slight increases of 1.15 percent to 0.26 percent, while Bharti Airtel, Hindalco Industries, Shriram Finance, Infosys, and Mahindra & Mahindra faced losses ranging from 2.60 percent to 0.91 percent.

Altogether, 2,453 shares were actively traded, with 1,095 shares in profit and 1,358 in loss. In the Sensex, only 4 out of 30 stocks were in the green, while 26 remained in the red. Similarly, 5 out of 50 Nifty shares were positive and 25 were negative.

The BSE Sensex opened down 145.25 points at 80,478.01, briefly rising to 80,550.40 due to buying before selling pressure took over. At 10:15 AM, the Sensex dropped to 80,150.59, down 472.67 points. Nifty started trading down 51.90 points at 24,544.25 but rose to 24,585.50 shortly after, only to decline further, closing at 24,450.65, a drop of 145.50 points. In the last trading session, the Sensex and Nifty had modest gains, closing at 80,623.26 and 24,596.15, respectively.
