Washington, Aug 23 (HS): U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday confirmed that Washington’s iconic John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts will host the official draw ceremony for the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Speaking at a press conference, Trump stated: “On December 5 this year, the draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be staged at the Kennedy Center.” FIFA President Gianni Infantino was also present during the announcement.
The Kennedy Center is currently undergoing a $257 million renovation, overseen by the Trump administration, and is being positioned as a major cultural landmark ahead of America’s 250th Independence anniversary celebrations next year.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be jointly staged by the United States, Canada, and Mexico — the first edition of the tournament to feature an expanded field of 48 teams and 104 matches.
According to FIFA’s allocation plan:
-Canada will host 13 matches, including 10 group-stage games split between Toronto and Vancouver.
-Mexico will also stage 13 games, with Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey as venues.
-The remaining bulk of fixtures will take place across 11 U.S. host cities.
Preparations for the mega event are already underway, with FIFA strengthening its presence by opening operational offices in Miami and at Trump Tower, New York.
