Neeraj Chopra Secures Second Place at 2025 Diamond League Final; Julian Weber Clinches Title

Neeraj Chopra

Zurich, August 29(HS): Indian javelin superstar and two-time Olympic medalist Neeraj Chopra settled for the runner-up spot for the third consecutive time at the 2025 Diamond League Final. Germany’s Julian Weber delivered a stellar performance, claiming his first-ever title with two throws surpassing the 90-meter mark.

Neeraj started the competition in third place with an opening throw of 84.35 meters. Until the fifth round, he remained third, but a final effort of 85.01 meters propelled him past 2012 Olympic champion from Trinidad and Tobago, Keshorn Walcott (84.95 meters), securing second place.

Weber dominated the event, throwing a season-best and personal record of 91.57 meters in his second attempt after an opening throw of 91.37 meters. He also recorded throws of 83.66 meters, 86.45 meters, and 88.66 meters, leaving other competitors far behind.

Neeraj was not at his peak form this time, with only three of his six attempts being valid and a maximum throw just over 85 meters. Known for regularly exceeding 88 meters, this was a rare occasion where he struggled to find his rhythm.

Having won the Diamond League trophy in 2022, Neeraj had to be content with second place again this year, as he did in 2023 and 2024. Now, he sets his sights on defending his title at the World Championships scheduled next month in Tokyo
