Kochi, September 9 (HS): The Kochi Blue Tigers etched their name in history by lifting the Kerala Cricket League 2025 title, and their captain Sanju Samson once again reminded fans why he is regarded as one of the most selfless and admired cricketers in India.
After steering his side to victory with a stellar show, Samson stunned everyone off the field by donating his entire prize money of ₹26.8 lakh to his teammates — a gesture that highlighted his humility and team-first mindset.
On the pitch, Samson was the heartbeat of the Blue Tigers’ campaign. In just six matches, he hammered 368 runs at an average of 73 and a strike rate of 186, smashing 30 sixes and 24 fours. His breathtaking 42-ball century remains the standout knock of the tournament and one of the most memorable innings in Kerala’s cricketing history.
With the state glory now secured, Samson has quickly shifted focus to the Asia Cup 2025, where his role in India’s top order will be under the spotlight. For weeks, discussions have raged about India’s opening combination, and Samson’s consistent run-scoring has made him a frontrunner.
Backing him, former India coach Ravi Shastri said, “Sanju is most dangerous when he opens. Once he settles in, it’s very hard to get him out.” His popularity is also soaring — chants of “Samson, Samson” echoed during India’s training sessions in Dubai, and captain Suryakumar Yadav even teased him as the squad’s “local boy.”
Beyond the numbers, Samson’s humility continues to endear him to fans. A viral clip of him politely telling kids, “Baad aata hoon beta” (I’ll come later, son), at the nets captured his grounded nature.
With explosive batting, wicketkeeping versatility, and composure under pressure, Samson brings a rare balance to Team India. His journey from leading Kochi Blue Tigers to preparing for continental glory sets the stage for what could be the most defining chapter of his cricketing career.
