Lungi Ngidi Ruled Out of England T20I Series with Hamstring Injury; Nandre Burger Called Up

New Delhi, September 11 (HS): South Africa have suffered a setback ahead of their ongoing T20I series in England as fast bowler Lungi Ngidi has been ruled out after sustaining a hamstring injury during a training session at Sophia Gardens. Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed the development on Wednesday, September 10.

Ngidi picked up the injury in practice on Tuesday, and scans later revealed the extent of the damage, forcing him to withdraw from the series. The pacer will fly back home today for treatment and rehabilitation.

In his place, left-arm quick Nandre Burger has been drafted into the squad. Burger, who was part of the recently concluded ODI series against England which South Africa won 2-1, will link up with the team in Manchester ahead of the second T20I.

Series update

South Africa currently lead the three-match T20I series 1-0 after securing a 14-run victory in the opening encounter. The second match is scheduled for Friday, September 12 at Old Trafford, Manchester, while the series finale will be played on Sunday, September 14 at Trent Bridge, Nottingham.
