Victory Matters More Than Run Rate: Towhid Hridoy

Towhid Hridoy

Abu Dhabi, Sept 12 (HS): Bangladesh middle-order batter Towhid Hridoy underlined that the team’s primary objective was to secure victory rather than worry about net run rate after their seven-wicket triumph over Hong Kong on Thursday.

“We could have finished the game earlier, but understanding the demands of the situation, we opted for a safe approach. Our mindset is always to win, and we did not want the match to slip out of our hands,” Hridoy said after the game.

Admitting that his own performance fell short of expectations, Hridoy remarked, “We tried to finish the match quickly but I could not connect the ball as I wanted. In the end, the result matters more than wrapping it up an over or two early.”

Looking ahead, Hridoy stressed that Bangladesh will focus on strong performances against tougher opponents rather than fixating on net run rate. “Our real goal is to defeat Afghanistan and Sri Lanka. At this stage, instead of thinking about run rate, we must prioritize building partnerships and ensuring stability at the crease.”

Reflecting on the challenge against Hong Kong, he noted, “In T20 cricket, any team can spring a surprise. Teams like Hong Kong are unpredictable, which makes them tricky opponents. The wicket was holding a bit, but we adapted well and came out with the win.”
