
New Delhi, September 12 (HS): The Financial Services Institutions Bureau (FSIB), the body responsible for selecting directors of public sector banks and financial institutions, has recommended Ravi Ranjan for the post of Managing Director (MD) at the State Bank of India (SBI). Ranjan, who is currently serving as Deputy Managing Director, is set to succeed Vinay M. Tonse, whose tenure concludes on November 30.
In a statement issued on Friday, FSIB said it had interviewed nine candidates on September 11, 2025, for the SBI MD position. Based on their performance in the interface, professional experience, and existing selection criteria, Ravi Ranjan was recommended for the top post.
The final decision on his appointment will rest with the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. If cleared, Ranjan will officially take charge as SBI Managing Director following the completion of Tonse’s term.
