Kathmandu, September 14 (HS): Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has directed schools and teachers to resume academic activities from Monday, September 15, following the disruptions caused by recent nationwide unrest in Nepal.
According to Keshav Gyawali, head of the Education Department of KMC, the decision comes after a period when schools were forced to remain closed due to widespread disturbances. Schools have been instructed to assess the damage caused during the unrest and ensure a safe environment for students upon reopening.
In an official public notice, KMC urged schools to inspect any infrastructural damage and communicate with parents to evaluate students’ conditions. It also emphasized that parents should accompany children until normalcy returns to guarantee their safety.
Classes will recommence with regular academic schedules, supplemented by psychological counseling support to assist students in readjusting to school life. Schools that sustained damage have also been advised to initiate online classes as an interim measure until physical infrastructure is fully restored.
The recent turmoil had seen arson attacks on over a dozen schools in Kathmandu, underscoring the urgency of careful damage evaluation and recovery efforts.
