-Chief Secretary submits report to Sushila Karki; 191 people still undergoing treatment in hospitals.
Kathmandu, Sept 14 (HS): Nepal’s interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki on Sunday received a report from Chief Secretary Eaknarayan Aryal on the violent Gen-Z protests that erupted on September 8, leading to widespread clashes and arson across the country.
According to the report, the death toll has risen to 72, including 59 protesters, 10 escaped prisoners, and three police personnel. In a grim discovery this morning, six charred bodies—four men and two women—were recovered from the Bhatt-bhateni Supermarket premises in Boudha, Kathmandu.
Chief Secretary Aryal further confirmed that 191 people remain hospitalized, among them 134 protesters and 57 police officers. More than 1,000 injured individuals have already been discharged after treatment.
The updated figures underscore the heavy toll of the violent demonstrations, which were initially sparked by a controversial ban on social media platforms imposed by the previous Oli government, eventually triggering mass unrest and political upheaval.
