New Delhi, September 14 (HS): Indian stock markets will remain closed for three days in October due to major festivals, including Gandhi Jayanti, Dussehra, and Diwali. According to the holiday calendar issued by the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE), markets will remain shut on October 2, 21, and 22.
On October 2, trading will remain suspended as the day marks both Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra. Since the two occasions fall on the same day this year, stock exchanges will observe a combined holiday.
Later in the month, October 21 will see markets closed for Diwali festivities and the traditional Lakshmi Puja. However, stock exchanges will organize the customary Muhurat Trading session in the evening, an auspicious time observed every year on Diwali. The exchange authorities will announce the session’s timings closer to the date.
The following day, October 22, markets will remain closed again in observance of Diwali Balipratipada, leaving investors with a three-day festive break from regular trading in October.
As per the stock market holiday list, after Balipratipada, the next holiday will fall on November 5 on the occasion of Guru Purab. Trading will also remain suspended on December 25 for Christmas.
In addition, it is noteworthy that in the currency derivatives segment, markets were closed earlier this month on September 5 for Eid-e-Milad.
