Washington, 15 September (H.S.): US President Donald Trump has reacted forcefully to the shocking murder of Chandra Nagamallaiah, a respected 41-year-old Indian national in Dallas, Texas, who was brutally beheaded last week by Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, an undocumented Cuban immigrant with a violent criminal history.
In a fiery post on his Truth Social platform, Trump promised to prosecute the accused “to the fullest extent of the law” for first-degree murder and vowed that his administration would not be “soft” on what he termed “illegal immigrant criminals.”
The September 10 attack occurred at the Downtown Suites motel, where CCTV footage showed Martinez—who was out of custody on an order of supervision—chasing and repeatedly attacking Nagamallaiah with a machete in front of his wife and 18-year-old son before decapitating him and disposing of the victim’s head in a trash bin. Martinez had previously been arrested for offenses including child sex abuse, grand theft auto, and false imprisonment.
Trump sharply criticized his predecessor’s handling of the case, claiming Cobos-Martinez had been wrongly released from Ice custody during the Biden administration. “This individual was previously arrested for terrible crimes… but was released back into our Homeland under incompetent Joe Biden because Cuba did not want such an evil person in their country,” Trump asserted.
The US Department of Homeland Security confirmed it had initiated removal proceedings against the assailant. DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin also blamed the prior administration, stating the “gruesome, savage slaying” was “completely preventable if this criminal illegal alien was not released into our country by the Biden Administration.”
The incident has sent shockwaves through Texas and the Indian-American community, sparking renewed political debate over US immigration enforcement and border security policies.
