New Delhi, September 15 (HS): Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj and Ireland all-rounder Orla Prendergast have been named ICC Players of the Month for August, in recognition of their standout performances that proved decisive in their respective team victories. The winners were selected through global fan voting combined with the verdict of an expert panel comprising former international cricketers and media representatives.

Siraj was instrumental in India’s thrilling six-run win against England at The Oval, where he produced a devastating spell on the final day of the Test. He finished with match figures of nine wickets, claiming 4/86 in the first innings and 5/104 in the second. His effort not only sealed the memorable victory but also ensured that the five-match series was drawn 2-2. Reacting to the accolade, Siraj dedicated the award to his teammates and support staff, noting that their unwavering encouragement continually drives him to excel.

Prendergast, meanwhile, showcased her all-round brilliance in Ireland’s T20I home series against Pakistan, where she emerged as Player of the Series after scoring 144 runs and picking up four wickets across the three matches. She carried that form into the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier, amassing 244 runs alongside seven wickets to lead her side’s campaign.

Calling the award “very special,” Prendergast said it validates her decision five years ago to pursue cricket professionally. She added that increasing visibility of women’s cricket on television and online platforms has significantly boosted the sport’s reach and participation worldwide.
