
New Delhi, Sept 16 (HS): Indian equities opened on a positive note Tuesday, with benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty staging early gains after a subdued start. Buying interest across frontline counters lifted market sentiment, though intermittent bouts of profit-booking trimmed some advances.
By 10 a.m., the Sensex was up 0.34 percent while the Nifty gained 0.31 percent, sustaining a strong upward momentum.
Market Performance
The BSE Sensex opened marginally higher at 81,852.11, adding 66.37 points against the previous close. Early selling briefly weighed on sentiment, but sustained buying quickly pushed the index higher. By 10 a.m., the Sensex surged 277.78 points to trade at 82,063.52.
Tracking a similar trajectory, the NSE Nifty opened with a modest gain of 4.40 points at 25,073.60 and steadily advanced despite sporadic profit-taking. By 10 a.m., the index was trading 77.60 points higher at 25,146.80.
Sectoral and Stock Highlights
Axis Bank, NTPC, Kotak Mahindra Bank, ONGC, and Bajaj Finserv were among the top gainers, rising between 0.64 percent and 1.24 percent.
On the downside, Asian Paints, Shriram Finance, Titan Company, Tata Consumer Products, and HCL Technologies slipped between 0.14 percent and 0.54 percent.
In broader market action, 1,913 stocks were actively traded, with 1,487 advancing and 426 declining. Among Sensex constituents, 24 stocks traded in the green while 6 remained under selling pressure. On the Nifty50, 38 stocks gained ground with 12 in the red.

On Monday, markets had ended weak. The Sensex fell 118.96 points, or 0.15 percent, to close at 81,785.74, while the Nifty slipped 44.80 points, or 0.18 percent, to settle at 25,069.20.
