Washington, September 17 (HS): US President Donald Trump extended warm birthday greetings to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, lauding his leadership and reaffirming America’s commitment to deepen partnership with India even amid tense trade disputes.

Trump took to Truth Social, calling his conversation with PM Modi a “wonderful call”, crediting the Indian leader for doing a “tremendous job” and appreciating India’s support for Washington’s efforts to push a peaceful resolution to the Ukraine-Russia conflict.

In a Truth Social post, Trump said: Just had a wonderful phone call with my friend, Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I wished him a very Happy Birthday! He is doing a tremendous job. Narendra: Thank you for your support on ending the War between Russia and Ukraine! President DJT

Responding on X,PM Modi thanked Trump for his wishes, stressing that India was equally determined to elevate the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.

“Thank you, my friend, President Trump, for your phone call and warm greetings on my 75th birthday. Like you, I am also fully committed to taking the India-US Comprehensive and Global Partnership to new heights. We support your initiatives towards a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict.,” PM Modi said.

The exchange of warm messages comes against the backdrop of heightened trade tensions. The United States recently slapped some of the steepest tariffs ever on India — a 50 per cent duty on overall imports and a specific 25 per cent levy on India’s purchases of Russian oil.
