Stock Markets Open Higher; Sensex and Nifty Extend Gains

New Delhi, September 17 (HS): Domestic equity markets witnessed a positive trend in early trade on wednesday with both Sensex and Nifty opening on a strong note and continuing to trade in the green despite intermittent volatility. After the opening, buying and selling pressures kept indices fluctuating for a short period, but sustained investor interest helped the markets hold firm. By 10 a.m., the Sensex was trading 0.30 percent higher, while the Nifty advanced 0.33 percent.

At 10 a.m., heavyweight stocks such as Tata Consumer Products, Trent Ltd., Larsen & Toubro, TCS, and Tata Motors were trading with gains ranging between 2.77 percent and 0.51 percent. On the other hand, Hindalco Industries, Cipla, Tata Steel, Bajaj Finserv, and NTPC saw declines between 0.38 percent and 0.09 percent.

As of the latest trade, 2,066 stocks were actively traded in the market. Out of these, 1,364 were in the green, posting gains, while 702 stocks were in the red, registering losses. Among the 30 constituents of the Sensex, 21 were trading higher supported by sustained buying, while nine slipped into negative territory. Similarly, out of the 50 Nifty stocks, 32 were up and 18 were down.

The BSE Sensex started the session 125.71 points higher at 82,506.40. Soon after opening, the index witnessed initial tussling between bulls and bears, leading to volatility. However, within 15 minutes of trade, buying momentum gained traction, pushing the index upward. By 10 a.m., the Sensex had risen 249.47 points to trade at 82,630.16.

The NSE Nifty index also mirrored this trend, opening with a gain of 37.50 points at 25,276.60. After a brief period of volatility caused by mixed buying and selling, fresh buying supported the index. By 10 a.m., the Nifty was trading 83.75 points higher at 25,322.85.

On the previous trading day, Tuesday, the Sensex had closed with robust gains — up 594.95 points or 0.73 percent at 82,380.69, while the Nifty ended 169.90 points or 0.68 percent higher at 25,239.10.
