
Brisbane, Oct 2 (HS): The India Under-19 team registered a commanding victory over Australia Under-19 in the opening Youth Test, winning by an innings and 58 runs on the back of centuries from Vaibhav Suryawanshi and Vedant Trivedi, along with a match-winning bowling display from D. Dipesh, who claimed eight wickets. With this win, India took a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.
The second and final Youth Test will be played in Brisbane from October 7.
Fast bowler Dipesh Devendran, son of former Tamil Nadu player Vasudevan Devendran, played a pivotal role in restricting Australia to 243 in their first innings, returning figures of 5 for 45. Left-arm pacer Kishan Kumar supported him well, bagging three wickets.
For Australia, No.3 batter Steven Hogan fought hard with a gritty knock of 92 from 246 balls.In reply, India piled up 428 runs, courtesy of a blistering 113 off 86 balls by Vaibhav Suryawanshi, an innings studded with nine fours and eight sixes.
Gujarat’s Vedant Trivedi top-scored with a magnificent 140, which included 19 boundaries. All-rounder Khilan Patel added quickfire runs with a breezy 49, helping India secure a massive 185-run lead.
Australia’s second innings collapsed swiftly as Kishan Kumar and Dipesh rocked the top order, reducing them to 24 for 3. In the middle phase, Khilan Patel struck with three wickets for 19 runs, tightening the screws. Though lower-order batter Aryan Sharma resisted with 43, Dipesh returned to dismantle the tail, clinching 3 wickets for just 16 runs and sealing India’s emphatic win.
