
Mumbai, October 2 (HS): On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra, the equity, currency, bullion, and commodity markets remained closed on Thursday, the fourth trading day of the week. Both public and private sector banks were also shut. Normal trading will resume on Friday, October 3.
At the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), all segments—including equities, derivatives, and the SLB segment—remained closed. No trading was conducted in the currency derivatives segment either. Similarly, commodity markets did not operate in both the morning and evening sessions.
Both the BSE and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) observed a full-day holiday.As per the official holiday list, the stock markets will also remain closed this weekend due to regular weekly offs on Saturday and Sunday.
The next market holiday will fall on October 21 for Diwali, followed by October 22 for Pratipada. Further, November 5 (Guru Nanak Jayanti) and December 25 (Christmas) will also be observed as trading holidays.
On Wednesday, a day before the holiday, market indices closed on a strong note. The BSE Sensex surged 715.69 points (0.89%) to settle at 80,983.31, while the NSE Nifty climbed 225.20 points (0.92%) to end at 24,836.30.
