
Ahmedabad, October 2 (H.S.): In the first Test match at Narendra Modi Stadium, India bowled out the visiting West Indies team for a modest total of 162 runs in their first innings. West Indies captain Roston Chase won the toss and opted to bat first, a decision that proved costly.India’s pace attack struck early, with Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah delivering crucial breakthroughs. The Windies lost four wickets for just 40 runs. Siraj was instrumental, dismissing Teagnarayan Chanderpaul (0), Alec Ethanaz (12), and Brandon King (13), while Bumrah took the wicket of John Campbell (8).
Shai Hope led a brief recovery with a 50-run partnership alongside Chase, taking the score to 90 before Kuldeep Yadav bowled Hope for 26, handing India their fifth wicket. Lunch was taken soon after.
Post-lunch, Siraj dismissed captain Roston Chase at 105 runs, followed by Washington Sundar removing Khaire Pierre (11) at 144.Bumrah then bowled out Justin Greaves (32) and Johan Allen (1) with his lethal yorkers. The innings concluded at 162 runs when Kuldeep Yadav caught Jomel Warrican (8) off Dhruv Jurel’s catch.
