
Miami, October 8(HS): Spanish footballer Jordi Alba, one of the most accomplished defenders of his generation, has announced that he will retire from professional football at the end of the current season.The experienced left-back, who joined Major League Soccer side Inter Miami in 2023, has been a key figure for the club, contributing 14 goals and 38 assists.During his tenure, Inter Miami captured the Leagues Cup and the Supporters’ Shield, marking a successful chapter in the club’s history.
In a statement released on the club’s official website, Alba said, “This is a well-considered decision that I’ve been thinking about for a long time. I believe now is the right moment to start a new personal chapter and spend more time with my family after many years of the demands of professional football.”
He added, “I am very happy with my time at Inter Miami and deeply grateful to the fans for their support. It’s been an honour to contribute to the team’s achievements and be part of the club’s growth. My goal now is to finish the season in the best possible way and give everything in the playoffs.”
Alba began his professional career with Valencia before achieving global recognition with FC Barcelona, where he became an integral part of the club’s golden era. With Barcelona, he won six La Liga titles, multiple domestic trophies, the UEFA Champions League, and the FIFA Club World Cup.
On the international stage, Alba was a vital member of Spain’s national team that won the UEFA Euro 2012 and the UEFA Nations League 2022–23 titles.
