Oli government in crisis over ordinance, three allies threaten to leave government

Kathmandu, February 13 (HS): The leaders of the ruling coalition party opposing the ordinance of the Oli government have now threatened to leave the government. The Democratic Samajwadi Party (LSP), Janmat Party and Nagrik Unmukti Party supporting the Oli government have put pressure on the government to withdraw the land related ordinance. After this threat from the three allies, the difficulties of the government have increased.

The Janata Samajwadi Party, which is supporting the government from outside, has now threatened to leave the government within twenty-four hours after deciding to vote against the ordinance. The Democratic Samajwadi Party (LSP), which is supporting the Oli government, has issued a formal statement and said to vote against this ordinance. Today, LSP President Mahant Thakur has asked the ministers participating in the government from his party to be ready to resign from their posts at any time. He said that if the government does not withdraw the land ordinance, then support will be withdrawn from this government.

Similarly, Janmat Party and Nagrik Immunity Party have put pressure on the government to withdraw the land ordinance. The leaders of these two parties held a joint meeting today and also said that they will not support the ordinance and if necessary, they will withdraw support from the government. Janmat Party President Dr. CK Raut has said that if the government’s stand on the ordinance is not clear in the next one or two days, then their ministers will be recalled from the Oli government. Nagrik Immunity Party leader Resham Chaudhary said that a formal decision will be taken on this as soon as party president Ranjita Shrestha returns from her foreign tour.

It is necessary to get the government’s ordinance passed by both the houses of Parliament, but after the opposition of JSP and LSP as well as Janmat and Nagrik Immunity Party, it is almost impossible for it to be passed by the upper house of Parliament.
