London, February 15 (HS): Manchester City’s injury problems have deepened, as Swiss defender Manuel Akanji will be out of the field for about 10 weeks due to a thigh injury.
City coach Pep Guardiola confirmed this in a press conference on Friday ahead of Saturday’s Premier League match against Newcastle United.
Akanji had to leave at halftime during City’s 3-2 defeat in the Champions League play-off against Real Madrid on Tuesday night. Guardiola said the defender will undergo surgery on Saturday and may take eight to 10 weeks to recover.
The coach said, He will have surgery on Saturday. We hope he will recover soon. He has worked incredibly hard this season, but ultimately the body indicated that a break is needed now. However, the relief news for Man City was that winger Jack Grealish’s injury is not serious.
Guardiola said, It is not as serious as Manu’s injury, but I don’t know if he will be ready to play against Newcastle.
Manchester City will try to avenge their defeat to Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu next Wednesday.
