SHARM EL-SHEIKH, Egypt, 13 October (H.S.): Israel has officially declined to participate in a high-stakes peace summit for Gaza, scheduled to be held on Monday and co-hosted by United States President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
The Israeli government confirmed it will not send a representative to the meeting in the Egyptian resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh, a decision that raises significant questions about the summit’s potential for a breakthrough.
No Israeli official will attend, Shosh Bedrosian, a spokeswoman for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stated on Sunday. The summit is expected to convene leaders and representatives from more than twenty countries in an effort to address the ongoing crisis in Gaza and explore avenues for a ceasefire and lasting peace.
However, the absence of a key stakeholder in the conflict is likely to complicate the diplomatic proceedings.
