Delhi, 16 October (H.S.): The Indian stock market kicked off the fourth trading day of the week on Thursday with significant gains, extending its upward momentum and bringing a sense of relief to investors. In early trade, the BSE Sensex surged by 419.28 points, or 0.51%, to trade at the 83,024.71 mark.
Similarly, the NSE Nifty 50 index rose by 105.10 points, or 0.42%, to trade at 25,428.65.The positive sentiment was widespread, with most major indices trading in the green right from the opening bell. A notable milestone was achieved as the Nifty 50 crossed the 25,400 level for the first time since September 19.
The momentum was sustained, with the Sensex trading at 82,969.45 (a gain of 364 points) and the Nifty at 25,426.40 (a gain of 102 points) as of 9:26 AM.Leading the charge were shares of the Adani Group, which saw a strong rally across the board. Adani Enterprises climbed 1.63% to ₹2,574, while Adani Green Energy saw a 1.8% rise to ₹1,063.
Other group stocks also performed well, with Adani Total Gas advancing 1.20% to ₹626.45, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone jumping 1.59% to ₹1,473.70, and Adani Energy Solutions gaining 1.46% to ₹958. Shares of NDTV also saw a 1.07% increase.
Among the top performers on the Sensex were Axis Bank, Adani Ports, Titan, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra, Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Tata Motors, NTPC, and HCL Tech. However, some blue-chip stocks faced selling pressure, with Infosys, Tech Mahindra, TCS, Tata Steel, and Sun Pharma emerging as the top losers in early deals.
This positive opening follows a strong closing on Wednesday, where the Sensex ended 575 points higher at 82,650, and the Nifty closed with a gain of 178 points at 25,324.
